Most common questions (and answers)
Q. What is this counter for?
A. Unlike the other counters, you do not have to reload the page if you want to see the
actual number of visitors on the page - just watch it as it changes.
Q. How much do I have to pay for using the OnLine Counter ?
A. If your site contains no adult or pirating material, nothing at all. If
it does, click here
Q. How to add the counter to my page?
A. The most simple example is:
<applet
code="OnLineCounter.class" codebase="http://java.oaza.co.yu"
width="50"
height="20">
<param name="URL"
value="www.mysite.com">
</applet>
!!! please do not use www.mysite.com
!!!
Q. I can't download the counter?
A. Of course, because there is no need for download. If you want a counter on your page,
just insert these few lines of code into your HTML
Q. My counter doesn't work at all?
A. Please refer to the manual page. Have you checked if you have
written the URL of your site without characters ? and \ .
Also, check out the Color syntax - no spaces allowed.
Q. I run my counter for the first time, and it shows number much greater than zero?
A. Check out the URL parameter - don't use www.mysite.com , null ,
etc. ...
Q. Some extra parameters?
A. Yeah, lots of them - please refer to the manual page. You can
add sound, colors, different fonts to the counter. Also you can reset it to the value you
want, or to cheat by incrementing it with any number you want. Also you can define the
links for click or double-click
Q. I want to shrink (or expand) the counter ...
A. No problemo, compadre, just modify the width and the height
of the applet. The counter will automatically adjust size of the digits
Q. Does it work with all browsers?
A. Yes, it's tested with all browsers that support Java - i.e. Netscape Navigator 2.0 and
above, and Microsoft Explorer 3.0 and above
Q. What is the difference between registered and unregistered counter?
A. Well, there are some extra (sneaky) features offered only for registered version of
counter
Q. How much does the registration cost?
A. Nothing at all, yet, except for sites containing adult material..
Q. OK, how to register the counter?
A. Follow this link
Q. My Microsoft Explorer wont jump to given URL when the counter is double-clicked.
A. I know. Sorry, can't help about it - MS Explorer does not make difference between one
and two clicks
Q. The counter shows absolutely nothing
A. Check the spelling of the counter class and the codebase - Java is very, very case
sensitive. Do not forget the codebase.
Q. Some of surfers report that the counter won't work on their PC.
A. Lots of problems are possible, but 3 of them are most common
Q. Can I add any of my sound files to the applet?
A. First of all, send me your .au file, so I can put
on the server. Also, check the list of sound files offered on
my server
Q. The counter doesn't work on a page with a character set different than ISO-8859-1
A. Sad, but true. I assume this is a bug in Netscape, because MS Explorer acts quite fine.
Anyway, there is a solution - put the counter in a separate frame with ISO-8859-1
character set. Serb webmasters - be careful with ISO-8859-2.
Q. Can counter have transparent background?
A. That is general Java problem. The answer is no.
Q. Can I have multiple counters on one page?
A. Yes, but do not exaggerate, the server might get overloaded
Q. Can I use the same counter on multiple pages?
A. No problem.
Q. Can I get the source code of the applet / server?
A. Sorry
Q. Can I install the server counter application on my own server?
A. The counter consist not only of client classes, but of server classes as well. If you
want to have the counter on your server, you must install all of them. That means that you
have to have server that you administer - preferably Windows NT. If you think you could do
all these things (that is - make a mirror counter) - please follow this
